Freight carriers will have to pay a guarantee deposit of 86,500 tenge (about 2.26 million soums) to book an electronic queue slot at three border crossings between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan from Nov. 9, the Turkestan Province State Revenue Department said.
The new procedure will apply at the Kazygurt, B. Konysbayev and Atameken crossings. Carriers must pay the deposit into a special electronic account before booking a slot. The money is refunded in full if the driver reaches the border at the scheduled time, the department said.
A carrier will forfeit the deposit if a truck misses its scheduled time twice in a row within 90 calendar days. The forfeited money will be transferred to Kazakhstan’s state budget.
The department said the procedure is being implemented to prevent artificial queues from forming at the crossings. It advised carriers to top up their electronic accounts in advance and take the new requirements into account when planning trips.
The deposit equals 20 monthly calculation indices, the department said.
