At the July 6 government meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed condolences to the families of people who died during the unrest on July 1 and 2 in Nukus. He also wished a swift recovery to the injured, Presidential spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.
According to official figures, 18 people died and 243 were injured in those days, of which 94 people remained in hospitals on Monday, including those seriously injured.
“On such days, we once again deeply feel how precious the peace and human life are, how important it is to protect them, and that we are all responsible for this,” the president said.
“Certainly, these events were not organized in a day or ten days,” he said. “For these actions, external hostile forces have been preparing for years.”
“Their true goal is to violate Uzbekistan’s territorial integrity and cause an interethnic conflict,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
“For a comprehensive, deep and objective investigation of past events, an investigative group headed by the first deputy prosecutor general is working. Impartial parties, i.e. representatives of the public, deputies and activists, should be involved in this process,” he continued.
The President instructed the Prosecutor General Nigmatilla Yuldashev to "deeply and impartially study each case and give a fair legal assessment of the actions of the participants in the event."
“The actions of law enforcement agencies should also be deeply analyzed. If they used force incorrectly, they should also be held criminally liable in accordance with the current legislation,” the president said.
