The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on Wednesday issued a statement expressing condolences over the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan.

“Uzbekistan deeply regretted the message of numerous human casualties and victims, as well as significant destruction as a result of the earthquake in the Afghan provinces of Paktika and Khost. We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wish a swift recovery to all the injured,” the statement said. 

“The government of Uzbekistan is ready to provide all possible assistance to the fraternal people of Afghanistan in overcoming the tragic consequences of the natural disaster as soon as possible,” the Foreign Ministry added. 

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck Afghanistan on the night of June 22. More than 1,000 people have died and thousands more have been injured in four districts in the southeastern province of Paktika, according to the latest data published by the Afghan publication Bakhtar. 

TOLOnews, citing Deputy Minister for Disaster Management Mavlavi Sharofiddin Muslim, reported of 920 deaths and 620 injuries.
