The Uzbek Senate chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva met with US Deputy Trade Representative (USTR) Christopher Wilson in Washington.
Christopher Wilson, welcoming the significant achievements of Uzbekistan in the field of ending the forced labor, noted that the lifting the boycott of the Cotton Campaign coalition was an obvious recognition of progress in the field of forced labor.
According to Christopher Wilson, the United States was committed to supporting Uzbekistan's efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). In this regard, he reiterated the readiness of the United States to attend the fifth meeting of the working group on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO. Recognizing the complexity of this process, Christopher Wilson emphasized the continued support of the US in this matter.
In addition, the Deputy Trade Representative stressed that USTR was interested in further expanding its engagement with Uzbekistan in advancing common priorities under the Central Asian-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). In this context, the USTR representative expressed hope for close coordination with the Uzbek authorities in the development of electronic commerce, which will create a strong foundation for deepening the integration of the countries of the region into the global supply chain.
Christopher Wilson also noted that he was counting on support for another TIFA working group on women's economic empowerment. Following the talks, the parties expressed mutual commitment to the further development and expansion of a multifaceted trade and economic partnership.
