The Ministry of Transport has issued a flight permit for Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a subsidiary of the Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air, Uzbek Ambassador to the UAE Abdulaziz Akkulov said.
According to him, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is set to launch four flights from Abu Dhabi (UAE) to each of Tashkent and Samarkand.
Abdulaziz Akkulov underscored that the low-cost airline ordered Airbus A321 aircraft for 298 economy class seats for October.
“We had a meeting with them on April 28. They, after obtaining permit, began to calculate flights. They promise good prices as a low-cost airline,” he said.
Uzbekistan has been inviting Wizz Air to the country since 2019. In September 2021, it was reported that the airline was interested in launching flights from Budapest to Tashkent, Bukhara and Samarkand.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a low cost airline based at Abu Dhabi International Airport (UAE). The airline is a joint venture with state-owned ADQ (formerly Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company, ADDH), which owns 51%, while Wizz Air Holdings owns the remaining 49%.
Flights began in November 2020. At this point, the fleet consisted of two Airbus A321neos. The company offers low-cost flights from the airport to reach growing markets throughout the Middle East, Africa and the Indian subcontinent.
