On June 2, in the afternoon in Urgench, Khorezm province, the driver of a GM Cobalt, which was standing on the side of a busy street, was brutally killed. Surveillance video footage of the incident has surfaced on social media.
The footage shows several people, including at least one elementary school student, running towards the car. Then one of them stabs the driver several times, presumably with a knife, at times leaning inward. Another guy runs up to him and also performs some actions in the open window of the car (it is difficult to determine from the footage). Then the guys run back.
Passers-by are confused. One woman faints. She gets help and later comes to her senses. Then people run towards the car.
The caption to the video says that the murder was committed by eight people.
Khayot Shamsutdinov, spokesman for the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan, said on Wednesday that as part of an initiated criminal case, one person was charged with intentional murder, he was taken into custody. Seven more people are accused of hooliganism under article 277 of the Criminal Code, one of them was taken into custody, and a receipt of proper conduct was taken from the remaining six.
The provincial prosecutor's office continues the investigation.
