On the morning of June 3, before trip to Urgench, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the current chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau, the presidential press service said.
The parties reviewed the ways to advance multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE, expanding Uzbek-Polish ties, as well as the current international agenda.
The sides noted the qualitatively new level of partnership with the OSCE achieved in recent years. “This is evidenced by an open and productive dialogue on all three areas of the Organization’s activities, active high-level contacts and exchanges, and successfully implemented joint activities in accordance with the adopted road map,” the statement added.
The priorities are the strengthening of Uzbekistan's interaction with all OSCE institutions, the expansion of expert support for democratic reforms, including constitutional reform, and the deepening of cooperation through the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization.
In the economic and environmental dimension, special attention is paid to the promotion of projects in the field of "green" development, digitalization, poverty reduction through the creation of jobs and support for business initiatives, the implementation of important environmental measures, including in the Aral Sea region.
The parties exchanged views on issues of international politics, including the development of multilateral relations with the European Union, the promotion of peace and socio-economic reconstruction in Afghanistan.
The President of Uzbekistan touched upon separately on the prospects for expanding Uzbek-Polish cooperation. Last year the two-way trade grew by a third, and year-to-date it has increased by almost 50%. A number of joint projects are being implemented with leading Polish companies in agriculture, food, chemical, electrical and other industries.
Important humanitarian programs are being carried out, including the opening of a branch of the Warsaw University of Management in Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the parties especially noted importance of establishing direct contacts between business circles and intensifying cultural and humanitarian exchange.
An agreement was reached on the adoption of a joint Road Map following the outcomes of the current visit of Mr. Zbigniew Rau to Uzbekistan.
