A regular meeting of the Uzbek-Tajik intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation took place in Dushanbe on 30 May.

On May 30, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdullah Aripov arrived in Dushanbe to attend the meeting of the commission, Khovar news agency reported.

The two PMs discussed the state and prospects of intergovernmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in areas of mutual interest, as well as issues on the agenda of the next meeting of the commission.

After that, the ninth session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held under the chairmanship of Abdulla Aripov and Qohir Rasulzoda with the participation of delegations from both sides.

After reviewing the implementation progress of the decisions of the eighth meeting of the Commission, the ninth session focused on intergovernmental cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in economy, trade, industry, investment, transport, energy, agriculture, customs, science and education, culture, health, tourism, youth and sports. issues of migration, employment, development in the field of ecology.

The delegations also exchanged views on the most important issues of regional cooperation. It was noted that with the constant attention and support of Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon, interstate relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have been steadily developing in all areas and are bearing fruit in all areas of cooperation.

In 2021, the two-way trade turnover between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan topped $ 447.8 million, which is 34.2% more than in 2020. This figure is the highest in recent years, 37 times higher than in 2015.

During the meeting, the parties expressed interest in further enhancing trade turnover between the two countries and developing ties in all areas. At the end of the meeting, a relevant document was signed.

It was decided to hold the next meeting of the commission in 2023 in Tashkent.
