Alisher Sultanov was relieved from the Minister of Energy role due to health reasons, the President’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov said on Thursday.

No interim Minister of Energy has yet been appointed, the Ministry of Energy said.

Alisher Sultanov was appointed the Minister of Energy immediately after the formation of the new ministry in February 2019.

Alisher Sultanov, 55, graduated from the A.F. Mozhaisky Military Engineering Institute (1989). In 1996-1998, he worked as the chief expert for monitoring the preparation and acceptance of instruments and equipment of the contract performance department for Bukhara oil refinery project of Uzneftniqaytaishlash company, in 1998 - the chief specialist of the contract performance department of Uztashqineftegaz.

In 1998-1999, he served as chief specialist of the group for monitoring inspection and purchase of instruments and equipment, receiving design documents from the construction department of the Shurtan gas chemical complex, in 1999-2002 - head of the Shurtan GCC construction department of Uzbekneftegaz.

He was in charge of Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex" (2002-2013). In 2013-2015, he worked as the head of the Main Department for Forecasting, Resources and Investment Programs of Uzbekneftega/ First Deputy Chairman of the Board, in 2015-2018 - Chairman of Uzbekneftegaz.

From 2017 to 2019, he served as Deputy PM/Head of the Complex for Geology, Fuel and Energy Complex, Chemical, Petrochemical and Metallurgical Industry.

Since last November he was said to be severely suffering from complications of the injuries from the traffic accident which happened in August 2018 that Alisher Sultanov suffered with the Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. In this accident Alisher Sultanov received fractures of the hip and ribs, after which he was treated in Germany and had used a cane for some time.
