Part of fortress wall near Talipoch gate, dating back to the 16th century, collapsed in Bukhara on the night of March 11. The collapse was caused by torrential rain which lasted all week, the provincial department of cultural heritage said.

On March 12, the place was visited by representatives of the Khokimiyat of the Bukhara province, the Department of Cultural Heritage and Emergency Situations, as well as experts from the Bukhara Provincial Restoration Center.

This part of the wall was already restored in 2003. The gate and wall have been included in the list of tangible cultural heritage properties, with conservation scheduled in 2022.

The Agency for Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage said in a statement that the 2003 restoration "was completed in a rush" and "repair work was not carried out by qualified craftsmen."

“In order to prevent such shortcomings, the Cultural Heritage Agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is taking measures to carry out restoration work at cultural heritage sites based on a carefully thought-out plan and with the participation of qualified specialists,” the statement said.
