Currently, if an Uzbek appears in a public place in religious robes, he/she faces a fine or 15-day administrative arrest.

According to MP Rasul Kusherbayev, during the next meeting, MPs of the Legislative Chamber discussed the draft Code of Administrative Offenses.

According to him, Uzbekistan plans to lift the fine for wearing cult robes in public places.

According to Article 184-1 of the current Code of Administrative Responsibility, the appearance of citizens of Uzbekistan in public places in religious robes entails a fine of five to ten basic units (BU=22 USD) or 15-day administrative arrest.

If the draft code is approved and takes effect, Article 184-1 will be deleted from the document.

In July 2021, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations Bill into Law. Then Uzbekistan canceled the ban on wearing religious robes in public places, but the administrative punishment remained in force.
