The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has decided to send a collective peacekeeping force to Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council Nikol Pashinyan announced on his Facebook page.
"In accordance with Article 4 of the Collective Security Treaty, I decided to send the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CSTO to the Republic of Kazakhstan for a limited period of time in order to stabilize and normalize the situation in this country," he said.
According to him, this decision was made in response to the request of the President of Kazakhstan Tokayev and "in view of the threat to national security and the sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan, caused, among other things, by foreign interference."
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, earlier called the riots in the country an act of aggression by international terrorists and turned to the heads of the CSTO states for help. He announced the start of the counter-terrorist operation and said that the airport in Almaty had been seized.
