The President signed a decree appointing Sherzod Shermatov as Minister for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Information said.

The day before, the Legislative Chamber approved Sherzod Shermatov's candidacy for the post of minister.

Sherzod Shermatov, 54, graduated from the Tashkent State Technical University (1998) and Yale University (2000). Since June 2018, he worked as the Minister of Public Education. Prior to that, he was Deputy Minister of Innovative Development for several months.

In 2017-2018, he already headed the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications. Previously, from November 2016 to February 2017, he worked as First Deputy Minister.

Prior to that - since 2014 - he was the rector of Inha University in Tashkent. In 2012-2014, he was Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Communications, Informatization and Telecommunication Technologies.
