Uzavtosanoat plans to contribute 427.7 million dollars to launch production of Chevrolet Onix and Tracker at UzAuto Motors plant. The project is due in September 2022 with a capacity of 190,000 vehicles per year.
These figures are given in the draft President’s Uzbekistan’s investment program for 2022-2024 decree, published by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.
In addition, at the UzAuto Motors Powertrain plant, it is planned to launch production of an annual 185 thousand engines for new car models. It is planned to contribute $ 190.8 million to organize production in 2020-2023.
In December 2019, UzAuto Motors announced that in 2020 it would begin preparations for the launch of production of Onix and other new models on a single budgetary platform Global Emerging Markets (GEM), which, among other things, underlies the new Tracker.
As reported in March the localization of Onix is planned in Q4 of 2022 (earlier it was announced plans to upgrade the degree of localization to 60%), and the nextgen Tracker, whose sales began this year, from Q3 of this year.
Former interim director general at UzAuto Motors Rustam Rajabov noted that Onix in Uzbekistan will be sold at between 9 to 12 thousand dollars. Test samples of the Onix car were delivered from Brazil to Uzbekistan in February.
