Uzbekistan’s total public debt of as of July 1, 2021 topped US$ 35.9 billion, an increase to the beginning of 2021 by 6% or by US$ 2 billion, the Central Bank said in a report.
In the first half of 2021, the public sector’s debt increased by 3% or by US$ 627.9 million and reached US$ 22 billion. The growth in private sector debt as of July 1, 2021 amounted to 11% or US$ 1.4 billion, mainly due to an increase in borrowing by banks and other sectors.
In the first half of 2021, the public sector drawn US$ 1.2 billion worth of loans, while the private sector attracted loans totaling US$ 3.2 billion.
At the same time, during the reporting period, the principal debt and interest were repaid in the amount of US$ 353.4 million and US$ 206.5 million, respectively.
