The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Pardoning a group of persons serving a sentence who sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of correction Decree ahead of the Independence Day on September 1, with various pardon measures applied in relation 215 citizens.

Of those pardoned, 3 persons were unconditionally released, 127 persons were released on parole, the sentences of 12 persons were replaced by milder ones. While, the sentences of 73 persons were cut.

Among those people 13 are female, 69 foreign nationals, 12 men aged over 60, 15 persons who had joined the banned organizations.

The relevant ministries and departments have been instructed to help those released for social adaptation, get jobs and find a worthy place in society.

The pardon tradition on the occasion of various public holidays dates back to the Soviet times. However, pardon tradition creates corruption within the penitentiary system, with many convicts trying to evade imprisonment by bribing officials in return of being included in pardon lists. This in turn results in well-off people not getting intimidated from committing crimes due to the existence of pardon-life buoy.
