The Chief of the General Staff/First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, the General Valery Gerasimov, today landed in Uzbekistan on an official visit. He will hold talks with the military-political leadership of Uzbekistan, during which issues of regional security and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation in the military field will be discussed, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said.

In addition, Valery Gerasimov is scheduled to observe the active phase of a joint bilateral Uzbek - Russian tactical drils in the Surkhandarya province bordering Afghanistan, within which the armies of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation will work out joint actions to protect the territorial integrity of the countries of the Central Asian region.

In total, about 1.5 thousand servicemen of the two countries are involved in the Uzbek-Russian drills, up to 200 units of weapons, military and special equipment, four Tu-22M3 aircrafts of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
