The Speaker of the Legislative Chamber Nuriddin Ismailov met with the newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ibrahim Raisi in Tehran on Wednesday, the Legislative Chamber said in a statement.

The Iranian leader thanked the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his congratulations on his election victory.

He also reportedly underscored that Iranian officials support Shavkat Mirziyoyev's initiatives aimed at further strengthening the regional security and good-neighborly relations with the countries of the region based on the principles of mutual respect, friendship and brotherhood.

According to the President, the reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have strengthened the role of parliament in the social life of the country.

"In the future, inter-parliamentary relations will play an important role in further expanding and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian areas," he said.

The parties also discussed the ways to further advance the Uzbek-Iranian ties, tapping the potential of the economic cooperation, in particular, bringing inter-parliamentary relations to a new level.
