3 million doses of Moderna vaccines will be delivered to Uzbekistan from the United States on July 29 on a special flight, Dunyo news agency reported.
The United States donated the vaccines at no cost through the World Health Organization's COVAX program.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Moderna vaccine is effective by over 94%. The drug is approved for use for persons aged 18 years and older. The vaccination course consists of two doses administered at intervals of 28 days.
The Moderna vaccine can be stored at normal refrigerated temperatures, which makes it easier to distribute them across all provinces of Uzbekistan, the report says. The WHO COVID-19 vaccine procurement and logistics guideline states that unopened vials of the vaccine can be refrigerated at 2 to 8 degrees for up to 30 days.
The delivery of Moderna vaccine was announced last week by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He underscored that Uzbek authorities "are struggling to bring vaccines to the country" and urged the population to get vaccinated.
