The Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit Uzbekistan July 15-16. The visit of the Pakistani leader bears the official status, and the head of Afghanistan will arrive on a working visit to attend the conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Threats and Opportunities”, which will be held in Tashkent.
The president’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov announced this at a briefing on Monday.
The conference will also be attended by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell. In addition, as the press service of the US State Department reported on Saturday, US special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad will also attend the conference, with the total number of participants surpassing 600.
The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will deliver a video message to the conference participants.
The President of Uzbekistan also has bilateral meetings with the leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan, the foreign ministers of China, Russia, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Central Asian states and other countries, as well as with the Assistant to the President of the United States for Internal Security Affairs Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall and the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
