Today, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the presidential press service said in a statement.
The two leaders focused on the situation in the region in the wake of the deterioration of the situation and the escalation of tension in Afghanistan. "The importance of continuing close interdepartmental coordination was emphasized," the statement says.
According to the press service of the President of Tajikistan, the presidents of the two countries reiterated the readiness of the parties to coordinate security cooperation between law enforcement agencies, especially in strengthening border protection with Afghanistan.
The presidents also reviewed the schedule of upcoming events at the highest level, including the holding of the next Central Asian Summit, which, as reported earlier, will be held in Turkmenistan.
As previously reported, on the night of July 5, Taliban forces took control of six districts in the Afghan province of Badakhshan. Tajikistan accepted over 1000 military personnel of the Afghan government troops who retreated to the territory of the neighboring country. With the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan, a total of 100 Afghan servicemen and militias entered Uzbekistan, all of them were sent back.
