The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan is launching a new project in the field of solar energy - "Phase II of the Sherabad Solar Photovoltaic Station (FES) Project" (Sherabad II).
The new project will be implemented by the Ministry of Energy within the framework of a general memorandum between the Government of Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank to provide technical assistance for competitive bidding for 1 GW of solar energy (the "Program").
Sherabad II stipulates the construction of a 300 MW photovoltaic plant in Sherabad district of Surkhandarya region. The station will be built by 2024 in close proximity to the facilities of the first Sherabad I project, which was announced in February 2020.
The site for the implementation of Sherabad I is also located in Sherabad district of Surkhandarya region. A tender is currently being held for this project. The Request for Proposals began on 14 December 2020 and will run until 15 March 2021. Within the framework of the first phase, it is planned to build a photovoltaic station with a capacity of at least 200 MW and new infrastructure.
The total capacity of 2 PVPs of 500 MW, with an annual output of more than 1.1 billion kWh, will be able to provide about 30% of the annual electricity consumption in the region. Let’s remind that the average consumption of electricity in Surkhandarya region is 3.2 billion kWh of electricity.
An open tender will be held within the Sherabad II project, which will be officially announced in early 2021.
ADB’s advisory services are focused on using the world’s best practices in project implementation while respecting the principles of transparency and openness, timeliness, reasonable risk allocation for the project, availability of the final service, and overall value for money.
