The English Speaking Nation: Secondary School Teacher Program (ESN: STT) program has now moved into its training and selection phases.

Starting next week, the Ministry of Public Education and American Councils will be hosting semifinalist interview panels for over 85 English language teachers from secondary schools from across the Republic of Uzbekistan. The selected English teachers will receive training from leading experts as well as international TESOL certification (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). TESOL certification is an internationally recognized 120-hour certification course that is being offered free of charge (a $2,000 value) by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent for over 350 secondary school English language teachers from across all regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan. These trainings will be held for ESN participants until April 2021.

In addition to TESOL certifications, the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent and the Ministry of Public Education will invite six English language teaching specialists – ESN Coaches – who will support teacher training and English language learning throughout all regions of Uzbekistan. Over the next 18 months, through a cascade-style program model, 15,000 English language teachers will be trained by both the TESOL-certified local English language teachers and ESN Coaches. The coaches will facilitate, support, and provide additional content to enhance the professional development offered to ESN: STT’s 15,000 teachers. Coaches will arrive in Uzbekistan in January 2021.

In 2019, the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in partnership with the Uzbekistan Ministry of Public Education and American Councils for International Education (American Councils), launched the English Speaking Nation: Secondary School Teacher Program (ESN: STT), a nationwide initiative to strengthen English teachers’ classroom language competency and teaching skills.
