The Authority for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health of Uzbekistan received 16 vehicles from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). They are intended for the provincial departments of the sanitary and epidemiological authority and will be used to improve the quality of monitoring the timely vaccination of children throughout the country, the Ministry of Health said.
The vehicles were purchased with the support of UNICEF and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization to improve Uzbekistan's national vaccination program. Currently, 13 vaccines are included in the national immunization schedule.
UNICEF is also helping the Ministry of Health to build vaccine warehouses, procure and install cold rooms, freezers and refrigerators, and vehicles for transporting vaccines. In addition, a vaccine logistics management information system was developed.
“Equitable distribution of vaccines for children has become an urgent task, and the support provided today and the hand-over of cars to the provinces is an important step towards ensuring the delivery of quality vaccines to all provinces of the country,” said Munir Mammadzade, head of the UNICEF office in Uzbekistan.
