Before the coronavirus pandemic, the number of unemployed in Uzbekistan was about 1.35 million, but now it has reached almost 2 million people, the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Nozim Khusanov said at a regular session of the international press club on June 7 dedicated to the development of the Ferghana province.
In addition, about 550 thousand Uzbek labor migrants were unable to depart for work abroad due to closure of borders.
According to the minister, 3.6 trillion soums were contributed from the anti-crisis fund for the construction of social facilities, and the construction of 50-60 such facilities began in each province. And labor migrants who could not travel to the countries where they worked are attracted to construction projects in provinces.
“For example, last month we employed about 1.5 thousand labor migrants in facilities under construction in the Sergeli district. Now they earn monthly from 1.5 million to 4.5 million soums,” he said.
