Uzbekistan airports will be handed over for management only following tenders , the new Minister of Transport Elyor Ganiev, today said at a news conference.

In May 2019, Novaport Holding and the Government of Uzbekistan in Urgench signed an agreement on Samarkand, Namangan and Urgench airports development project. Later reports surged that negotiations between Novaport and Uzbek authorities got to an dead-end: the government was reportedly not ready to provide them for 30 year-concession, as requested by the investor.

“This process will be proceeded through a tender basis. Our position is clear – the contracts will be awarded following call for bids,” he added.

Elyor Ganiev said that cooperation with foreign airport management companies in Uzbekistan will be based on public-private partnership or concession terms.

“Therefore, it’s too early to say who will be managing, Japanese or Russian companies,” he concluded.
