The First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways, Achilbay Ramatov held talks with President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan said.
The Uzbekistan delegation arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the regular meeting of the joint Turkmen-Uzbek commission for trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.
During the meeting, the President Berdimuhamedov highlighted his country’s readiness to expand multifaceted interstate dialogue with Uzbekistan.
The sides shared the views on the current state and prospects of boosting the long-term productive partnership in a number of key areas, including in the energy and transport links, machine building, agriculture, education, healthcare, culture, etc.
During the meeting the sides noted the largely untapped potential in trade turnover between the two countries and confirmed their interest in the diversification of beneficial cooperation.
It was emphasized that both countries attach great importance to advancing cooperation in solving the common regional problems, among the most important of which is the mitigation of the Aral Sea tragedy and rational use of water resources.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan, Akmaljon Kuchkarov was also present at the meeting.
