The Tashkent metro carried 288,187 passengers between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. today, on September 14, the metro's press service reported.
Demand for public transport, particularly the metro, has risen as universities began the new academic year for all courses.
The busiest hour during that window was 8 to 9 a.m., when 103,285 passengers rode the system.
The heaviest passenger flows were recorded at the Chinor, Sergeli, Choshtepa, Olmazor, Chilonzor, Buyuk Ipak Yuli, Dustlik, and Beruniy stations.
Train intervals have been shortened during peak hours: trains now run every 1.5 to 2 minutes on the Chilonzor line, every 3 minutes on the Uzbekistan line, every 4 minutes on the Yunusobod line, and every 7 to 8 minutes on the above-ground Circle line.
One passenger said trains used to arrive every 4 to 5 minutes but now come every two minutes. Another described the metro as "faster and more convenient than a taxi."
The report follows earlier news that officials had proposed raising bus and metro fares in Tashkent to up to 2,500 soums.
