Pursuant to the Jan 25 Presidential decree "On perpetuation of the memory of the First President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov" a number of places in Uzbekistan will bear his name.
Places to be named after Islam Karimov:
- Tashkent State Technical University;
- Asaka automobile plant;
- Palace of Art in Fergana city;
- Tashkent International Airport;
- central streets in Karakalpakstan, Tashkent city and regions.
In Samarkand, a memorial complex will be erected at the burial place of Islam Karimov,.
Monument to Islam Karimov will be erected in Tashkent and Samarkand cities, where Islam Karimov was born and raised, and Karshi, where he worked as Kashkadarya region governor.
Tashkent’s Oqsaroy residence will host a Memorial Complex and the Charity Foundation named after Islam Karimov.
In addition, an Islam Karimov museum in Samarkand will be created and State scholarship program is to be set up for undergraduate and graduate studies.
It is planned to create scientific and artistic works, documentaries and films about the life of Islam Karimov and issue special postage stamps with his portrait.
