An official of Uzbekistan Airways said why air tickets are so expensive in Uzbekistan, UzA said. “30-40% of the ticket price is made by the jet fuel price. Since we don’t have enough supplies of kerosene in Uzbekistan, we buy it from abroad. We were selling kerosene to foreign carriers at US$ 1.2 thousand a ton. Under the new system, Uzbekistan Airways may buy kerosene and refuel foreign aircrafts for US$ 890,” said Ulugbek Bektoshev, the head the company's Air transport development department.
He added that currently imported kerosene is sold at 11 airports in Uzbekistan at this price.
In his opinion, airtickets prices may decrease reduced by making appropriate changes to the Air Code of Uzbekistan. In particular, prices can be reduced by 20% for passengers who fly without baggage and meals on board.
