The country has secured first place among CIS nations for fixed broadband speeds in the latest Speedtest Global Index, the Ministry of Digital Technologies said in a report.
In August, average fixed broadband download speeds ticked up from 94.23 Mbps to 94.50 Mbps, pushing the nation up three spots in the global rankings from 76th to 73rd. Mobile internet speeds also saw an upward trajectory during the same period, with download speeds climbing from 62.42 Mbps to 65.27 Mbps, elevating its global standing from 75th to 72nd.
This growth caps off a strong performance since the beginning of 2026, during which mobile internet download speeds surged by 27 percent, rising from 51.42 Mbps to 65.27 Mbps in just eight months. The Ministry of Digital Technologies highlighted that over the past five years, the nation has climbed an impressive 65 positions in the global mobile internet speed rankings.
This digital acceleration coincides with recent regulatory updates. On January 26, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Digital Technologies officially registered a new edition of the Telecommunications Services Provision Rules. The updated framework aims to streamline procedures for users and simplify access to mobile and alternative communication networks.
Infrastructure improvements are also expanding into public education following a briefing reviewed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 1, 2026. The presentation revealed major connectivity gaps in schools, noting that 69 percent of schools lack localized Wi-Fi infrastructure, 5,000 computer labs are outdated, and another 2,000 schools completely lack computer facilities.
To bridge this digital divide, officials have outlined a strategic plan running through 2030 to deploy complimentary Wi-Fi hotspots across schools, boost overall connection speeds, and upgrade 16,000 computer classrooms.
