According to the draft Presidential decree on Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy for 2017-2021, which is currently being discussed, Uzbekistan is planing to improve the passport-visa and entry-exit systems. The relevant government bodies are required to prepare proposals on this issue in third quarter of 2017.
The draft foresees the introduction of international and internal passports and cancellation of exit visa (commonly called “sticker”) for overseas travels. In addition, a procedure is to be introduced, in which courts may ban travel abroad in case there are legal grounds.
The document intends to simplify the system of passport control at airports and stations through introducing of modern ICTs on data processing, automated passport control cabins and face recognition system comparing persons with criminal photo database.
In addition, it is planned to launch a two-corridor (green and red) system to optimize the customs control for individuals.
It is noted that introduction of these measures will facilitate overseas travels, improve the effectiveness of border control,= and will contribute to the development of tourism.
