Uzbek enterprises in 2016 exported 818.5 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables, a 38.3% increase to the previous year, a statement of UzAgroEksport said.

Fruits and vegetables were exported to 43 countries, with 9 new countries added to the exports geography. For the first time canned capers were exported to Spain and Italy, walnuts to Lebanon, dried grapes to Vietnam, dried vegetables to Belgium, grapes and melons to Switzerland, dried apricots to Holland, dried grapes to Israel, -dried grapes and fruits to the Czech Republic.

Last year UzAgroEksport opened five trade houses in Russia and two in Kazakhstan. 4200 tons of products worth 1.018 million US dollars have been shipped to these trade houses. It is planned to open another trade house in Novosibirsk for the supply of fruits and vegetables to Siberia Federal District. By the end of 2017 trade houses will be opened in India, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Belarus and the United Arab Emirates.

UzAgroEksport is considering to open joint trade houses in Kuwait, Oman, Japan and South Korea. According to the company, there is an increased demand in these markets for such products as fresh cherries, melons, pomegranates, apricots, beans, walnuts, peanuts, dried fruit, and legumes.

In 2017, the export of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan is expected to reach 1.27 million tons.
