The government has set as of January 1, 2017 new cigarette excise tax rate pursuant the Presidential decree "On main macroeconomic indicators and parameters of the State Budget of Uzbekistan for 2017". The excise tax for with filter and non-filter cigarettes increased (for 1000 units) from 28.794 to 37.432 thousand soums (+29.9%).
According to the decree, the excise tax on cigarettes imported to Uzbekistan (HS code 2402 20) is kept at 18.2 dollars per 1,000 units. Also, the excise tax on cigarettes from tobacco and its substitutes (HS code 2402 20 900 0) is set at 55 dollars per 1,000 units.
The rate of excise tax on cigars and cheroots, cigarillos, containing tobacco, remained the same - $ 0.42 per unit.
