Tashkent mayor Rahmonbek Usmanov during his visit to Almaty met with his counterpart, Bauyrzhan Baibek. The two mayors discussed the issues of strengthening trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian relations, the akimat (mayor's office) of Almaty said.
It was underscored that in 10 months of this year the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Almaty rose by 62% compared to the last year reaching US $ 200 million. In Almaty there are 129 joint ventures and 236 Uzbek enterprises.
"Almaty is the city of business and private capital, and hosts over 90% of the banks head offices. The services and retail account for 86% of GRP, with lending to SME growing by 36% this year. A set of measures are being taken to support investors. At the same time, the city authorities are focusing on the development of the tourism cluster, and in this regard the experience of Tashkent and Uzbekistan as a whole is of particular interest to us", - mayor Baibek said.
In his turn, the Tashkent mayor Usmanov stressed that Almaty has made a major step forward in affordable housing development.
Affordable Housing-2020, a State Program implemented in Kazakhstan, has proven its effectiveness. This issue is very urgent in Tashkent and we will certainly make use of the similar mechanisms"- he said.
A month ago, Almaty Mayor during the meeting with the Uzbekistan Ambassador Ikrom Nazarov invited Uzbek athletes to participate in the 28th World Winter Universiade-2017. Recently, the Uzbek athletes have confirmed their participation in the Games.
