The Uzbek Legislative Chamber at its meeting adopted a resolution to rename the Jizzakh district of Jizzakh region in honor of Sharof Rashidov.
According to the information service of the lower house, the proposal had been submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Sharof Rashidov (1917-1983) is the party and state leader, who led the Uzbek SSR for 24 years (1959-1983).
The decision to rename the district had been based on public opinion and on the conclusions of the National and territorial commissions in charge of naming and renaming of geographical areas.
Resolution has been sent to the Senate (upper house) for approval.
