The CIS observers mission stated that Uzbekistan Presidential elections held on December 4 were free, transparent and competitive.
The head of the CIS mission, the Executive Committee chairman, Sergei Lebedev made a statement at a briefing in Tashkent on December 5, Turkistan Press Information Agency said.
"We have visited more than 700 polling stations across the country and based on the information that we had obtained from our observers in regions and their own impressions, we have made the following conclusions", - Sergey Lebedev said.
"The mission considers that the authorities, local self-government bodies and election commissions of all levels ensured the realization the right for free election. The observers made the conclusions based on their own observations, analysis of factual material and information gathered in the course of long-term and short-term monitoring of the elections."
According to the CIS observer mission, the presidential elections were organized "at the highest level and in compliance with the State's election law and international norms on elections."
"The elections were free, transparent and competitive. The elections have demonstrated the political maturity of the civil society and have become the Uzbekistan’s significant step towards progress and new democratic reforms", - Sergey Lebedev underscored.
He stressed that this view mirrors the position of all States participating in the CIS mission. The mission’s official statement on the elections observation will be published in the next few days.
