President Shavkat Mirziyoyev yesterday hosted the visiting Deputy PM/ Strategy and Finance Minister of the Korea Republic Kim Dong-yeon, the President’s press service reported.

The sides reportedly discussed the ways to expand the cooperation in trade, economic, investment, innovation, banking and finance and other areas.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the leadership and the people of the Republic of Korea on the opening of the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang and wished successful holding of this event.

Mr. Kim Dong-yeon conveyed greetings on behalf of the President Moon Jae-in and expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for introduction of a visa-free regime for the citizens of the Republic of Korea. In his opinion, this will contribute to significant increase in the tourist inflow to Uzbekistan and strengthening of business contacts.

The Deputy PM confirmed the willingness of his country to strengthen the strategic partnership ties and expand full-scale mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Last year, two-way trade between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea exceeded US$ 1.3 billion. Currently, US$ 6 billion worth over 60 investment projects are being prepared and implemented to create modern production facilities and upgrade infrastructure in Uzbekistan.

In total South Korean investments in Uzbekistan’s economy reached US$ 7 billion, with over 500 enterprises with the South Korean capital.
