Mayor of Saykhnabad district in Syrdarya province Nosirjon Egamberdiev, who was filmed beating school principals, resigned, the mayor’s office reported. He served in this position since October 2016.
The footage was posted in September on YouTube, showing the mayor beating local school principals, with the Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting internal investigation.
Botir Mirzakulov, former mayor of Mirzaabad district, was confirmed as the new mayor of the Saikhnobod District. Khamidulla Abdullayev, former chief of the department for supervision over enforcement of the legislation in the field of agriculture of the Syrdarya province prosecutor's office, replaced Mirzakulov.
