Traffic in Tashkent is expected to pick up noticeably on the morning of September 2 as schools, academic lyceums and technical colleges across the capital open their doors for the new academic year. Officials say the areas around educational institutions are likely to see a sharp rise in both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, with congestion possible along several routes.
To help prevent gridlock and ensure students can reach their schools safely, the Tashkent City Police Department has urged residents to use public transportation wherever possible.
The department also called on drivers to avoid double-parking or leaving vehicles for extended periods near schools and universities, to strictly observe traffic regulations, and to yield to pedestrians and students.
According to police, officers will be deployed near educational institutions throughout the day on September 2 to maintain order, manage traffic flow and assist members of the public.
Classes at schools, academic lyceums and technical colleges begin September 2. At universities and other higher education institutions, the new academic year will start on a staggered schedule: first-year students begin September 7, while second-year students and above return to classes on September 14.
