The first phase of construction and repair work on the 111-kilometer Darband–Boysun–Elbayon highway in Surkhandarya province has been completed.

A 27.5-kilometer stretch of the road — spanning kilometers 5 to 32.5 of the project — was fully built and opened to traffic Sunday.

According to the provincial governor's office, the first phase included the construction of seven bridges and an eight-kilometer pedestrian walkway equipped with nighttime lighting.

A ceremony marking the milestone was held at an overpass located at the 7.1-kilometer mark of the project. Surkhandarya Governor Ulugbek Kosimov attended, along with war veterans, community activists, local officials, project contractors and members of the public.

Officials noted that the bridge where the ceremony took place is 60 meters long, 15.7 meters wide, and rises 9 meters above ground level.

The project is being carried out by international contractor Lankaran Yol Tikinti of Azerbaijan, with funding provided by the Asian Development Bank.

As previously reported, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered the reconstruction of the Boysun–Denov road during a visit to Surkhandarya in March 2023. At the time, the president personally got behind the wheel to inspect the road's poor condition, which was riddled with potholes.
