The Central Bank has released a collection of commemorative gold and silver coins marking the 35th anniversary of the country's independence. Sales began on August 27 at 690 commercial bank branches nationwide, the regulator's press service announced.
The collection comprises three coins united by a shared artistic concept centered on national statehood, historical heritage, national values and Uzbekistan's modern development.
The first coin features the Independence Monument, symbolizing freedom, national pride and sovereign statehood. Rays of sunlight behind the monument represent the opportunities that independence has opened up and the promise of a bright future.
The coin's reverse side displays the national flag of Uzbekistan alongside the date of its adoption, November 18, 1991.
The second coin is dedicated to the country's historical and spiritual heritage. Its obverse depicts the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, which the central bank says symbolizes Uzbekistan's contribution to world science, spirituality and the development of Islamic civilization.
Its reverse side bears the national emblem of Uzbekistan and the date of its adoption, July 2, 1992.
The third coin's central design element is the number "35." Its reverse side carries a line from the national anthem — "Olamni mahliyo aylagan diyor!" ("A land that has captivated the world!") — along with the date of the anthem's adoption, December 10, 1992. The design also incorporates patterns drawn from the traditional Uzbek do’ppi, skullcap.
The commemorative coins are struck from 999.9-fine gold and silver, each weighing 31.1 grams with a face value of 100,000 soums.
The coins can be purchased either as a set of three or individually.
The initial mintage totals 450 gold coins and 800 silver coins, though the central bank noted the run could be expanded depending on market demand.
Current prices and information on coin availability at individual banks will be published daily on the Central Bank's website.
