A 19-year-old man in the Sokh district of Fergana province has been sentenced to four days of administrative detention after harassing a school janitor. Daryo reviewed the court documents.

The incident took place on August 10 at around 10:30 a.m. outside a secondary school in the district.

According to the case file, H.I. encountered janitor N.Sh. as she was leaving work near the school entrance. He then made sexually suggestive remarks to her and offered her money.

Angered by the encounter, the victim told the young man he was close in age to her own son and reported the incident to police.

In court, H.I. described his remarks to the woman as a joke and asked for leniency.

The Sokh District Criminal Court found H.I. guilty of committing an offense under Part 1 of Article 41-1 of the Administrative Liability Code (Sexual harassment) and sentenced him to four days of administrative detention.

The case follows a string of similar incidents reported across Uzbekistan in recent months. In Tashkent province, a school principal was sentenced to five days of detention for harassing a student. In Samarkand, an employee of a district preschool and school education department received the same sentence for harassing a teacher. And in Syrdarya province, a school counselor was reported to have received five days of detention after sending sexually suggestive messages to a student via Telegram.
