Uzbekistan will offer 70 state-funded university scholarships to citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Mongolia for the 2026/27 academic year, the country's Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation has announced.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will each receive 20 places, while Mongolia has been allocated 10.

For Kyrgyz applicants, the scholarships cover six undergraduate programs: preschool education and construction engineering, computer engineering, and agronomy, each with four places, along with water management and land reclamation and ecology and environmental protection, with two places apiece.

According to Kyrgyz news outlet Kabar, Osh State University will handle candidate selection for the Kyrgyz allocation. Since training at Uzbek universities is offered in both Uzbek and Russian, applicants will need to show proficiency in their chosen language — and because Uzbek-language coursework uses the Latin alphabet, familiarity with Latin script will also factor into candidates' eligibility. Applicants must additionally pass exams in two specialized subjects, graded on a five-point scale.

The application window runs through August 22, with entrance exams set for 8 a.m. on August 24 at Osh State University's main academic building. Required documents include an application form, a copy of a secondary or vocational education diploma or certificate, a passport copy, a medical certificate in Russian, and a photograph.

Uzbekistan first began offering Kyrgyz students annual scholarships to study select programs at its top universities in 2021.

The scholarship allocation follows the government's approval in July of university admission quotas for the 2026/27 academic year, which notably included a 35% increase in state-funded places for information technology and artificial intelligence programs.
