The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Uzbekistan has surged by 44,000 in a single year, clearing the 109,000 mark.

According to data from the National Statistics Committee, as of April 1, 2026, registered electric vehicles in Uzbekistan reached 109,200 units. This represents an increase of 44,000 vehicles, or nearly 67%, compared to the same period last year.

For context, the country had a total of 65,200 EVs as of April 1, 2025. Year-over-year analysis demonstrates that the demand for eco-friendly transportation is growing steadily across all provinces.

Tashkent city remains the undisputed leader in EV adoption. The number of registered electric cars in the capital grew by nearly 30,000 in one year, jumping from 49,736 to 79,851 units. The Tashkent province (8,194 units) and the Samarkand province (4,525 units) round out the top three. Notably, the EV fleet in the Samarkand province grew 2.5 times over, spiking from 1,739 to 4,525 units.

EV adoption has also accelerated significantly in the Khorezm (3,042), Qashqadaryo (2,611), and Fergana (2,231) provinces. The Navoiy (1,756), Bukhara (1,685), Andijan (1,477), and Namangan (1,156) provinces, along with the Republic of Karakalpakstan (1,010), have all passed the 1,000-unit milestone for registered electric cars.

The lowest figures were recorded in the Sirdaryo (799), Jizzakh (517), and Surxondaryo (315) provinces. Even so, these areas registered nearly a two-fold increase compared to last year's figures (which stood at 404, 302, and 198 units, respectively).

It was previously reported that Uzbekistan plans to introduce an incentive mechanism to subsidize a portion of EV charging electricity costs from the state budget.
