President Mirziyoyev signed a decree on naming one of the streets in Tashkent after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Monday.
According to the decree, a section of Abdulla Qodiriy Street adjacent to the under-construction Uzbek-Turkish Friendship Park - stretching from the intersection of Istiqbol, Fargʻona Yoʻli, and Nukus streets to the intersection of Abdulla Qodiriy Street and Makhtumkuli Avenue in the Yashnabad district—will be named after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The plan to name a capital street after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was first discussed in 2022, ahead of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Uzbekistan, during a meeting between Ambassador Olgan Bekar and former Tashkent Mayor Jakhongir Artikhojaev. The matter was raised again in February 2025 when Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov met with Turkish Ambassador Olgan Bekar. In June of that year, the city administration put forward a vote to rename a portion of Abdulla Qodiriy Street in the Yashnabad district after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Tashkent previously had a street named after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. However, in 2011, that street was renamed Zarafshon Street.
