Major traffic restrictions will be implemented across several key thoroughfares in the capital tomorrow, May 22, as the city prepares a massive farewell ceremony for the Uzbekistan national football team ahead of their historic debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the Tashkent Traffic Management Center, vehicular movement will be restricted periodically from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM to accommodate fans and security around the venue. The official send-off celebration is scheduled to take place at the Bunyodkor Stadium.

Affected Routes and Streets

Traffic officials noted that the following sections will experience temporary closures or rolling restrictions:

  • Chupanata Street: From the Chilanzar–Chapanata intersection to the Katartal–Chapanata intersection.
  • Chilanzar Street: From the Little Ring Road–Chilanzar intersection to the Chilanzar–Chapanata intersection.
  • Bunyodkor Street (Secondary Road): From the MKAD–Bunyodkor intersection to the Bunyodkor–Chapanata intersection.
  • Sebzar Street: From the Nurafshan–Sebzar intersection running all the way to the Islam Karimov–Bunyodkor intersection.
  • Bunyodkor Street (Main Thoroughfare): From the Islam Karimov–Bunyodkor intersection to the Bunyodkor–Second Katartal intersection.

The Traffic Management Center has urged all drivers and commuters to plan their journeys in advance and utilize alternative bypass routes during these hours.

A Historic Milestone for Uzbek Football

The traffic measures underscore the massive scale of the event, celebrating a monumental milestone for the nation. For the first time in its history, Uzbekistan's national football team has qualified to compete on global football's biggest stage.

The squad has been drawn into a highly competitive Group K, where they are slated to face off against powerhouse Portugal, Colombia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The highly anticipated tournament matches will be co-hosted across various cities in the United States and Mexico.

Speaking at a press conference last week, Uzbekistan's national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro struck a tone of grounded realism ahead of the country's historic World Cup debut. When pressed by reporters regarding his expectations for the tournament he said that he couldn’t guarantee high results, but promised that the team would give a fierce fight against each and every opponent.
