At its session on May 19, the Senate approved a bill introducing administrative liability for failing to notify a buyer if a vehicle's odometer readings have been altered or if the odometer itself - the device that measures mileage has been replaced.

According to the senator Abdulkhakim Eshmuratov, the bill is aimed at refining administrative liability laws, strengthening consumer protection, and ensuring fairness, objectivity, and transparency during the review of administrative cases.

Specifically, the Code of Administrative Liability is being expanded to include a new Article 178-2. This article codifies penalties for non-disclosure when a vehicle’s mileage has been tampered with or when the odometer unit has been swapped out entirely.

The senator emphasized that this new legal standard is designed to crack down on rampant fraud in the used car market, eliminate deceptive sales practices, and safeguard the fundamental right of consumers to receive accurate and honest information.
