Two children died following circumcision surgeries performed at a local medical facility in Ishtikhon district of Samarkand province, Kun.uz reported.

The families of the young boys claim that both children were in good health upon admission to the facility. However, they allege that mandatory pre-operative tests were never conducted.

The first tragedy occurred on March 22. After a five-year-old boy underwent the procedure, he began bleeding the following day. The attending physician bandaged the wound and assured the family that everything was fine. By evening, the boy developed a fever. Despite the family following medical advice, his condition failed to improve. When the surgeon was called to the home on March 27, he dismissed the symptoms as a common cold. Following an intervention by a nurse, the child was rushed back to the hospital and placed in intensive care, only to be pronounced dead half an hour later.

A second case occurred on April 3. Following his circumcision, another child suffered an allergic reaction and a high fever. Hospital staff told the family the reaction was a natural part of recovery. The boy passed away on April 8. Like the first victim, he reportedly did not receive a general medical examination prior to the surgery.

The spokesman to the Prosecutor General’s Office Khayot Shamsutdinov announced that a criminal case had been initiated on May 2 under Article 116, Part 3 of the Criminal Code (Improper performance of professional duties). The investigation is ongoing and includes additional forensic checks, such as face-to-face testimonies and exhumations.
