On May 5, the first Jaloliddin Manguberdi passenger train, manufactured by Hyundai Rotem, made its ceremonial debut at Tashkent Central Station and successfully completed its inaugural journey on the Tashkent to Khiva round route.
To facilitate this high-speed service, Uzbek railway workers fully electrified the 450-kilometer Bukhara–Urgench–Khiva section of the track.
Currently, standard trains take 14 hours to travel from Tashkent to Khiva. With the introduction of the Hyundai Rotem service, this travel time will be nearly cut in half, covering the 1,022-kilometer distance in just 7.5 hours.
The seven-car train has a capacity of 389 passengers. On its maiden voyage, the majority of travelers were foreign tourists. The route includes stops in the historic cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Urgench.
It was also noted that there are plans to extend this high-speed service to the city of Nukus starting in 2027.
The train will operate from Tashkent to Khiva on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, returning from Khiva to Tashkent on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
